Today we spent some time with my dad (Papa) and his wife (Nana). Because I am a member of the gardens I get Bloom Passes to the Butterfly House (free admittance basically) and the Butterfly House is really close to their house so we invited them to join us. We met late this morning and looked at all the bug displays (yuck) before walking through the greenhouse. I have been there several times with our family but Papa and Nana had never been before so it was a lot of fun, HOT inside, but fun.
After the Butterfly House we rode the carousel in Faust Park. These are pretty typical weekend activities for us during the summer. We always combine the two. The kiddos were spoiled by Nana and Papa and were able to buy something at the Carousel gift shop. L of course got a stuffed pony and the cutest purse. J got a truck with a horse trailer. They of course were ecstatic. I don’t have any pictures of the carousel because none of them turned out well. I forgot to turn my flash on for JT before I left him to take pictures. My fault.
We ate a yummy lunch at Red Robin and went to their house to meet their new kitty, Lucy before heading over to the barn to see the 3 horses. We had some carrots to feed the horses and Samson kept following L around. It was so cute, he would nudge her when she was standing still. L will be going on Mondays this summer for Saddle and Swim and also take a few riding lessons from a friend of Nana’s. She is really excited. L handles herself really well around the horses and pays attention to the rules. I think she will do really well, at least I hope so. On the way home she told me she definitely wanted to do it but she didn’t want J to, just her. Here are some pictures of the horses:
It was such a fun and exciting day that both kids were asleep by the time we made it to the highway. L can’t wait for the summer so she can spend some time there and it will be nice for J too. Perfect ending to our Spring Break.
