Wordless Wednesday – Trepidation

Brand new ballet class… new friends… and new teacher = 1 nervous little ballerina

L’s first day at her new dance school (which she loves, she is the only little one that listens and does what she is told, now if I could only get her to do that at home).

Check out more WW today.

L looks adorable. How is the new studio? A reminds me, like, every day that we promised to find dance classes in Durham. And she means as soon as we get there, too.

I’m digging the new layout, by the way. Very cool.

She loves her new studio. She is really doing well there and it’s not as much as the Y. Plus the BS is gone. Thanks I like this layout, at least for now. I will probably change it in a few weeks.

After your comment tonight I had to come back over here and see if you’d said anything about L picking at her lips… and found this picture. Is this what you’re talking about? Because this is exactly what mine does all. the. time.
It used to be mostly when she’s nervous, but really it’s turned into such a habit now she does it constantly. I’ve tried putting band-aids or tape on the tops of her fingers… didn’t really phase her or she just took them off.
Today I threatened with the vinegar; we’ve been talking a lot with her about how we could possibly help her remember not to pick, to keep her hands down, without punshing, nagging, etc. I’ve been at a loss. But after school today I thought of the vinegar. All I did was (after reminding her for the 319th time today to get her hand off her lips!!) pull it out of the cupboard and tell her I had new idea for a reminder. I took the lid off and told her to smell it. Ewww. I told her the next time I saw her pulling/picking at her lip I was going to dip her fingers in the vinegar. She figured out herself that she probably didn’t want that reek right under her nose, let alone touching her mouth. I left the bottle of vinegar right in the middle of the kitchen table in plain sight. I didn’t see her touch her mouth again.
My husband did say he noticed once right before bed, so we may still get to do a little dip tomorrow… we’ll see how it goes!

Yes that’s exactly what she does. The vinegar would probably work with her too. She is so quiet and shy so she nervously picks until they are raw. Then the worst part she won’t let me put chapstick on. She HATES lipstick. So it’s never fun here during the winter.
