We just took a VERY long car trip from STL to Orlando. The first trip down took us about 18 hours, the second trip (home I might add) took 16 hours. We have a 4 year old and a 2.5 year old, everyone we told that we were driving to Disney World told us we were nuts, we were like oh yeah whatever. Now we know… we are nuts!!! We won’t be doing it again, at least for quite a while. Our new rule is all children in our car must be pooping on their own (no diapers), able to sit in the car in a booster seat, not a car seat and must be able to self entertain for hours on end. There now with that said here are my works for me tips for those of you still nuts enough to take a car trip with your toddlers (if you want to hear all the horrid road trip stories because your spouse won’t spring for airfare, e-mail me, I’m full of frightening stories that will definitely change his/her mind), sorry back to my tips.
If you have young toddlers that like to color, play… whatever, buy one of these, immediately! It was a lifesaver at times.
It is called the Go Anywhere Table and Footrest by One Step Ahead. Here’s where you can find the table. Really it’s totally awesome. The table (the yellow part) tilts up so it’s easy to remove your child from their carseat but the footrest is just as cool, it also tilts out of the way and moves up and down for different heights. Our kids were way more comfortable this trip than the last one in July. But the absolute best part that tops all the other parts: I was able to put their pillows on the table and they were able to sleep without sore necks or this…
But now you can see this. Isn’t that awesome! It was very nice to see. Oh yeah some more nicey nice things about the table… it was very easy to install before we left and remove when we got home, there is a cup holder, a cup for snacks that has a rubber stopper so they don’t fall out when you fold the table up to remove your toddler. Plus a little section across the top that you can place crayons or just a couple of m&m’s or goldfish, whatever you bribe feed your kids on a car trip. I can’t say enough, they were able to color, sleep, eat and drink, even watched a movie on a portable dvd player on them. Buy one today if you plan on taking a long car trip with your kids. This is what works for me. Check out Rocks in My Dryer for more brilliant works for me tips.
